Special Election Set To Fill Seat of State Rep. Plawecki

A special election has been scheduled to fill the seat held by state Rep. Julie Plawecki, who died while hiking with a daughter in Oregon.

The Democrat from Dearborn Heights died last month of an apparent heart attack.

Gov. Rick Snyder announced Tuesday that a primary to fill the remainder of her term will be held Aug. 30 and the general election will be Nov. 8. The winner would serve through the end of 2016.

Plawecki was elected in 2014 and was unopposed in the August primary. The primary candidate to run for the next term beginning in January will be determined by Democratic precinct delegates in the 11th House District. That general election also is Nov. 8.
