An 8-year-old Muskegon Heights boy who was born without a left hand has received a superhero-themed prosthetic hand.

WOOD-TV reports that Michael Bell was born with Moebius syndrome, a neurological condition that affects muscle movement.

In addition to the missing hand, the right side of his face and vocal chords are paralyzed.

The husband of Michael's elementary school teacher contacted friends who directed him to a Central Michigan University freshman, who engineered a prosthetic hand for Michael.

After receiving help from online donors, the hand was made on a 3D printer.

The prosthetic is red, white and blue, and includes a shield that looks like the one that Michael's favorite superhero, Captain America, carries.
