A man has been shot to death following a holdup at a credit union in western Michigan.

Authorities say the man was carrying a gun Monday morning as officers chased him after a car used in the Wyoming robbery was ditched in a parking lot.

The man had led police on a car chase through three communities.

Police say officers stopped the chase as the driver became more reckless on the road.

Two Kentwood officers found the stopped car.

Cash was on the ground and inside the vehicle.

The man was shot about 10 a.m. in Grand Rapids after fleeing on foot from the officers.

A gun was recovered.

The officers have been placed on administrative leave as the shooting is investigated.
