A 73-year-old man who authorities say has a criminal record stretching back decades has been sentenced to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to robbing a southwestern Michigan credit union.

U.S. Attorney Patrick Miles announced Thursday that Simon Gutierrez will be under court supervision for five years after being released and also must pay restitution. He robbed a Kalamazoo credit union last year.

Authorities say Gutierrez's criminal history dates back to the 1960s, and he was convicted of bank robberies in Colorado and Illinois in the 1980s. He has been imprisoned for more than 40 years and was last released in 2010.

Gutierrez most recently lived in Three Rivers.
