Two suspicious canisters found at a Consumers Energy substation in Battle Creek have been removed by authorities.

A spokesperson for the Jackson-based utility says a substation employee noticed the canisters on the property on Elm Street after 9 a.m.

Local and state law enforcement responded and cleared the scene by about noon.

The spokesperson says the company hadn’t received any threats, and was not aware of any similar incidents.

Battle Creek police say the two canisters appeared to be a homemade bomb, described as two gas cans attached to another device.

The company says no outages occurred at the facility.
