Officials at Muskegon State Park in western Michigan are making progress on plans to deal with a longtime problem with vandalism at one of its buildings.
The Muskegon Chronicle reports about $9,000 was raised to remove graffiti and install security cameras on the park's blockhouse, which sits high atop a dune overlooking Lake Michigan.
The Department of Natural Resources and Winter Sports Complex now seek $3,500 more to repair fire damage to the 50-year-old building and add a sealant designed to resist spray paint.
The blockhouse is a recreation of the original structure, which was burned down by vandals in 1962.
The original building was constructed in the 1930s.
Park officials say motion-activated lights also have been installed and extra patrols by authorities are planned.
