Memorial planned for Grand Rapids officer killed in 2007

Grand Rapids Police Department

Plans call for building a memorial to a Grand Rapids police officer who was fatally shot in 2007 while responding to a domestic-dispute call.

WOOD-TV reports a permanent plaque bearing Robert Kozminski's name as well as the names of 14 other officers from the Grand Rapids Police Department who have died in the line of duty is expected to be installed at Richmond Park.

Multiple organizations on the city's West Side are organizing a fundraising effort for the memorial, which already has been approved by the city.

They're seeking $30,000 to install the memorial and another $35,000 to contribute to the Robert A. Kozminski Memorial Scholarship.

Kozminski's friend Jack Potes said: "He would have an extra smile on his face looking down, knowing people cared about what he did."
