Several west Michigan leaders will help inform statewide educational practices.
Governor Rick Snyder announced the appointments of Grand Valley State University President Tom Haas, Grand Rapids Public Schools Superintendent Teresa Weatherall Neal and other west Michigan educational leaders on Friday. Haas will chair the commission.
The 25-member board was created by the governor as part of the 21st Century Education Commission.
Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency Superintendent Dave Campbell and Kevin Stotts, president of Talent 2025, are also among west Michigan appointees.
The group is tasked with reviewing current state policies and concepts from pre-school through an undergraduate degree.
They’ll also study top-performing districts across the nation to recommend and prioritize possible changes to Michigan’s educational system.
A final report is expected at the end of next February.
