Gov. Rick Snyder has signed a bill requiring a human trafficking hotline number be posted in rest stops, airports and bus stations.

The legislation signed Tuesday gives the state the power to order fines for places that fail to post the number.

The law follows recommendations from a Michigan human trafficking commission.

Advocates say it's a low-cost way to educate the public about human trafficking and provide help for victims.

Snyder says Michigan has "some of the strongest policies in the nation" to help human trafficking victims.

The attorney general's office says human trafficking is a $32 billion global industry.
