LUDINGTON, Mich. (AP) - A $25,000 grant has been awarded to the new Port of Ludington Maritime Museum.

The Ludington Daily News reports the grant is from the Consumers Energy Foundation, and a check will be presented Thursday at the museum site.

The Mason County Historical Society's new museum is slated to open in spring 2017 in the former Coast Guard station at Ludington.

Historical society executive director Rick Plummer says the grant will "help to hasten our opening" and ensure the museum has a variety of exhibits.

The station was formally deeded to the city in July 2010 and construction began on the museum.
