A town hall highlights the three finalists of an open Grand Rapids commissioner seat.
All three are expected to attend tonight's event, allowing residents a chance to meet and learn more about each candidate.
The finalists are Joseph Jones, CEO of the Grand Rapids Urban League; Tamara VandenBerg, WellHouse director and Meanwhile Bar and Pyramid Scheme co-owner; and retired Grand Rapids Police Department detective Terrence McGee.
A total of 11 candidates applied for the open Grand Rapids Second Ward seat, which became vacant after former commissioner Rosalynn Bliss took office as the city’s mayor.
The Monday night event starts at 7 p.m. at GRPS University on Fuller Avenue NE.

A candidate public hearing is also expected this month, followed by a second round of interviews.
The commission will take a formal vote to name and swear-in its new commissioner on February 23.
