Authorities say two recent larcenies may be part of a larger scam targeting elderly victims.

The two cases occurred in the last month and involved older residents who live alone.

Grand Rapids police say one male suspect in both cases distracted the victims at home while other suspects entered the home to steal items of value.

A similar case reportedly occurred in Kalamazoo.

Police are warning residents to be aware of people claiming to be contractors at your door if you have not hired any, and not allow anyone you do not know into your residence.

If you think you may be a victim of a scam, you are encouraged to contact the department.
