Applications for a soon-to-be vacant Grand Rapids City Commissioner seat can be filed beginning January 4.

The opening comes after current Second Ward commissioner Rosalynn Bliss was elected as mayor by majority vote this August.

She will be sworn in as city mayor on January 1.

Applications are open from January 4 to 15, and available at the city clerk's office or online at GRCity.us.

A list of applicants will be published on January 19, with public interviews and a candidate town hall to follow.

The body is expected to vote on its candidate on February 23, who would then be sworn in as Second Ward commissioner.
