Sister's stabbing brings blend of juvenile detention, prison

A Grand Rapids-area teenager who repeatedly stabbed his sister will spend time in a juvenile detention center and then prison.

The 15-year-old pleaded guilty to attempted murder in August and appeared in Kent County court Tuesday for his sentence.

The Grand Rapids Press says his sister told him that she loves him and misses him.

Sheriff's deputies found the 13-year-old girl with multiple stab wounds last March at the family's home in Caledonia Township.

Prosecutor Laura Clifton says the brother could spend about three years in prison if he does well in juvenile detention.

He'll be evaluated after age 19.

The teen says he's "going to work hard" to understand why he stabbed his sister.

The Associated Press typically doesn't identify minors charged with crimes.
