Calvin Theatre Company presents BYE BYE BIRDIE by Michael Stewart, with music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Lee Adams (musical comedy)Directed by Brad Cain, Adjunct Professor of Theatre
Teenagers, rock & roll, and national television – Bye Bye Birdie captures the energy and excitement of the late 1950s with warmth, hilarity, and an exuberant score.
Teen rock & roll heartthrob Conrad Birdie has been drafted into the army, much to the dismay of his manager, Albert Peterson. In a desperate attempt to save his career and his company, Albert and his secretary/assistant/girlfriend, Rosie Alvarez, devise a publicity stunt to send Conrad off with “One Last Kiss” given to a randomly selected member of his fan club--Kim MacAfee from Sweet Apple, Ohio--on The Ed Sullivan Show.
Recommended for ages 8 and up. We encourage families with younger children to research the show to determine individual comfort levels prior to attending.
The Gezon Auditorium is located in the Spoelhof University Center on the campus of Calvin University.
BYE BYE BIRDIE is presented by special arrangement with Concord Theatricals, representing the Tams-Witmark collection. (www.concordtheatricals.com)
