Michigan health officials say medical records indicate both people who died had significant underlying health conditions.
They add that the disease, which can cause cramping and explosive diarrhea, is generally not life threatening, and deaths from it are un-common in the U.S.
Michigan is reporting more than 11,000 cases of cyclosporiasis, though it’s not clear how many of those people may have already recovered from the illness.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say laboratories have confirmed thousands of cases spread across 45 states, though not all of them are from the same outbreak.
