The $305 million Reimagine Grand Rapids Public Schools bond was overwhelmingly approved by voters in November 2023. Now the district is providing an update on its biggest projects.
Construction continued through the winter on a new, state-of-the-art elementary school on the city’s northeast side. The school will combine students and staff from Aberdeen Academy and Palmer Elementary starting in the fall of 2027.
The first phase of construction on Ottawa Hills High School is underway, with a new middle school entrance being constructed to welcome Alger Middle School students and staff this fall.
In June, construction will begin at Alger Middle School as the building becomes the future home of Brookside Elementary. Improvements include new flooring, fresh paint, upgraded lighting and HVAC systems, and two new fully accessible playgrounds. The school will reopen in the fall of 2027.
And renovations to the historic 1,000-seat Betty Bloomer Ford Auditorium inside Innovation Central High School are winding down. New house lighting, seating, and rigging system and curtains have been added.
