Governor Whitmer appealed for additional aid in August

Additional federal disaster aid has been rejected by FEMA 7 months after northern Michigan was hit by a damaging ice storm.

The aid would have helped residents with housing and disaster-related losses and supported utility companies.

In July, President Trump issued a federal disaster declaration for the storm. 50 million dollars in aid was approved.

In August, Whitmer appealed for additional aid, citing concerns utilities would have to raise rates to make up for storm-related costs.

The storm caused widespread destruction, leaving many people trapped in their homes with no electricity, some for weeks.

Areas of the region are still being repaired.
