“Did you get some other stuff you needed today?”

Just like every weekend, Steve Sanchez and the Be A Ruby team is serving a hot meal to hungry and homeless people in the Grand Rapids Heartside neighborhood.

“We are here consistently every weekend.”

But last weekend was a little different because he says someone stole their pink distribution van from the parking lot at their Grandville headquarters.

“We went to go prepare for our weekly feeding and clothing distribution and our pink trailer was stolen.”

And Be A Ruby founder Harry Rissley says without the trailer they can’t bring everything.

“We bring in food still providing all the lunches like we have been, but we are going to be limited on all of the extra stuff we can bring until we can get the trailer replaced.”

Rissley started Be A Ruby in memory of his 7-year-old daughter Ruby. In 2021 she was struck and killed by a car while walking home from school. The stolen trailer is bright pink, Ruby’s favorite color.

“We are still going to go strong we have high hopes we are going to get this resolved”

“Keep your eyes out for our pink trailer that trailer is very important to us.”
