The new University of Michigan Health-West Wayland Health Center is scheduled to open in May of 2024 and will be more than 75 percent larger than the current office at 17,300 square feet

The University of Michigan Health-West broke ground on Tuesday, March 28, at the site of the new Wayland Health Center, following the announcement of a $10.4 million investment in the Wayland community. The groundbreaking ceremony took place at 1113 West Superior St. and was attended by representatives from UMH-West, as well as members of the Wayland community.

A news release says the new University of Michigan Health-West Wayland Health Center is scheduled to open in May 2024 and will be more than 75 percent larger than the current office at 17,300 square feet. This expansion will enable UMH-West to add primary care and specialty providers to meet the needs of the region's growing population.

UMH-West CEO Dr. Peter Hahn says "We are thrilled to break ground on the new University of Michigan Health-West Wayland Health Center," he adds, "This new center reflects our commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services to the Wayland community.”

In addition to existing staffing of three primary care physicians and three advanced practice providers, the new center is expected to have the capacity to add three or four more physicians and providers.

The center will also have space to accommodate monthly rotating specialties, such as cardiology and obstetrics and gynecology.
