An executive with the nonprofit that owns the SAT will lead the largest department in Michigan government.
 
     Robert Gordon was named director of the Department of Health and Human Services by Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer Thursday. He's senior vice president of finance and global strategy for The College Board.
 
     He previously worked in the Obama administration, in the Education Department and Office of Management and Budget. He also clerked for Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
 

Officials say a security breach at a Michigan provider of HIV/AIDS care services and substance abuse treatment has compromised some patients' personal and medical information.
 
     Sacred Heart Rehabilitation Center says a "limited number of patients" were notified about the breach linked to a phishing scheme that affected an employee's email account last April. The organization says affected information included Social Security numbers, full names and addresses.
 
     Letters were recently sent to affected patients.

A ghost stole my homework? Muskegon Community College plans to hold classes in the fall at a renovated funeral home. The Grand Haven Tribune reports that Muskegon Community College purchased the Clock Life Story Funeral Home building for $378,000. The college's Grand Haven campus is currently located at the Grand Haven Community Center.

Just one month ago, Police Chief David Rahinksy dropped a bombshell on city officials…he had already purchased a home in Florida, and his mind had been made up; his time in Grand Rapids, was over.

Fast forward one month later, city officials announced this week that they have hired Public Sector Search and Consulting to conduct a national search for the next Grand Rapids Chief of Police.

Michigan's 100th Legislature has begun its two-year session.
 
     Republicans opened the term Wednesday with smaller majorities in both chambers following the November election. They will have to contend with a Democratic governor for the first time since 2009-10, the last time Michigan had a divided government.
 
     Legislative work is unlikely to progress much until Gov. Gretchen Whitmer delivers her first State of the State address on Feb. 5 and proposes her first budget in early March. There are also a lot of new lawmakers who need to learn the ropes.
