Tlaib: Barring lawmakers from visit “a sign of weakness”

govtrack.us

US Representative Rashida Tlaib of Michigan has called a decision to bar her and another member of Congress from visiting the West Bank “a sign of weakness.”

Tlaib and Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar were barred from an official visit to the West Bank by the Israeli government. That’s following public statements by President Trump that it should do exactly that. Both members have been critical of Israel’s policies on the West Bank.
Tlaib will be allowed to visit family but will not be allowed to visit in her official capacity as part of the US government. Tlaib took to Twitter to respond. She said in a post that the decision by Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netenyahu is -quote- “a sign of weakness b/c the truth of what is happening to Palestinians is frightening”
The decision to bar the two members of Congress from visiting on an official trip reversed an earlier decision by the Israeli government.
