As West Michigan continues to recruit skilled workers to the area to fill roughly 80,000 open jobs, the Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce is hoping they’ll consider Muskegon as a place to live.

In an effort to increase the City’s relevancy nationwide, officials hope a new magazine will help sell Muskegon as a vibrant Lakeside community that has just as much to offer as Grand Haven, Spring Lake and Holland do.

Cindy Larsen is the Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber President.

“Yes, we are trying to grow our name recognition,” Larsen said. “A lot of people have heard of many Michigan cities, but they may not have heard of Muskegon. Yet we offer everything that anyone could want in terms of a lifestyle, and we have year-round jobs. So, this is an opportunity for us to really try to brand ourselves on a national level.”

According to the chamber, the new magazine is a partnership with living.com which will provide the magazine’s digital presence. Officials say the content will promote attractions, restaurants, and amenities in the area all in an effort to encourage investment, and convince new Michiganders to choose Muskegon as a place to buy a home.

According to a recent study by Grand Valley State University, Michigan is facing a serious shortage of workers in the skilled trades industries, thus making the need to recruit talent to West Michigan a top priority for business owners.
