Mel Trotter Ministries will soon unveil its new mobile shower unit.  It will be revealed tomorrow in the main parking lot of “The Other Way Ministries” on Fulton.

Experts say the mobile shower will allow those experiencing homelessness not only a hot shower, but compassion as well.

“While we go out on outreach,  9 out of 10 people tell us how badly they just want access to a shower so they can feel clean and stop getting looked at and judged by people as if they are less than.”

Beth Fisher is the VP of Communication and Advancement at Mel Trotter.

She says on Wednesday, Mel Trotter Ministries will debut a three stall mobile shower unit after an outreach program revealed last year that one of the gaps in care is the lack of showering options for those who are homeless.  Fisher says the mobile shower unit will be placed at strategic locations throughout the city where hygiene services are most needed.

“So, soap and other resources and everything that we often take for granted, when we are able to have those resources, that will all be provided inside of the mobile shower unit, yes a 3 stall . We’re very excited to see and meet that very imperative need.”

Fisher adds many people may take the idea of a shower for granted.  But for those who living in encampments and on the streets, this is one simple thing that might help them turn things around.

“One of the things that continue to break out hearts, we heard loud and clear that people so often say, I would love to get a job, but I am embarrassed to go in to a place of employment and feel unclean, know that I’m unclean and know that I am unclean, understand how I look and feel and smell.  We felt an immediate pull to rectify this issue, because we recognize that not everyone wants to come in to the mission.”

Again, that mobile shower unit launches on Wednesday.
