Judge rules census count will come to an end October 5th

usatoday.com

A legal battle continues over when the 2020 Census will end. Last week, a federal judge said the tally will continue through the end of October, but yesterday Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said he would violate that order and end counting October 5th.

Victoria Kovari is in charge of Detroit’s Census effort. She says she will take any extra time for responses she can get.

“We still need everybody who hasn't filled out that form, take 10 minutes and fill it out." Kovari said.

"Because you know we get one shot at this every 10 years. We just want people to just know understand that this is bigger than, than they are. This just affects our future.”

Detroit’s response rate is one of the lowest in the nation at just over 50-percent.
