Jon Bumstead holds off Holly Hughes for 34th State Senate primary win

Voters in Muskegon, Newaygo and Oceana County turned out for the state Senate race in the 34th district featuring Democrat and Republican primaries.

Republican Jon Bumstead pulled out the win in a close race with Holly Hughes. Bumsted says his message of fighting for quality jobs, reducing taxes and pay down the state’s debts resonates with voters.

“With a good crew I started doing doors when the snow was up to your knees and I hit all the rural townships, all the primary voters and had a good message," Bumstead said. "When you go to somebody’s door with a positive message and a smile on your face and can talk the issues, I can normally get their support.”

Bumsted says he’s thankful for the support he’s received.
