House adopts resolution to urge lawmaker to resign

housegop.gov

A majority of lawmakers in the state House want Republican Representative Larry Inman to resign.

The House passed a resolution today urging the embattled lawmaker to step down.

Representative Inman has missed dozens of days – and votes – in the state Legislature since he was indicted in May. Inman is accused of trying to sell his vote on a controversial measure. And he’s been federally charged with multiple crimes – including lying to the FBI.

The resolution says Inman’s conduct has – quote – “drawn ridicule and disgrace to the state of Michigan.”

Inman is still awaiting trial, and his attorney says he’s concerned the vote jeopardizes Inman’s ability to have a fair trial.

Inman was previously removed from his party’s caucus – meaning he can’t sit in on closed door meetings. Or get certain support services.

Leaders in the state House were tight lipped on whether they would start removal proceedings if Inman doesn’t step down.
