GRPS cuts ribbon on City High Middle renovation

Grand Rapids City High Middle School is about to get a major facelift. As part of the Grand Rapids Public School Transformation Plan and the $175 million bond approved by voters in November 2015, $17 million will go towards transforming the nearly 100 year old building into a cutting edge learning facility. Once home to Crescent High School, renovations on the structure will include cosmetic upgrades, renovated science labs and technology infused classrooms.

Monday, school and city officials cut the ribbon on the project.

"This support is tremendous and it's truly needed," City High Middle Principal Ryan Huppart said. "We are very thankful to the citizens of Grand Rapids.

Superintendent Theresa Weatherall-Neal said the project is indicative of where the district is heading.

"We have stayed the course, and we will continue to stay the course," Weatherall-Neal said. "Everything we set out to do six years ago, we have done."
