GRPD makes arrest in connection with January 3rd homicide

Grand Rapids Police say they have solved the city's first murder of the year, as authorities announced Friday that an arrest related to a January 3rd homicide as been made. Police have charged twenty-three year old Andre Dimetre Sims, of Grand Rapids with open murder, and he is currently in custody at the Kent County Correctional Facility. 

On January 3rd, at around 11:45 PM in the 1200 block of Alpine Avenue NW.m officers were called to the location on the report of a female who had been shot. 65-year-old Sandra Day Carter of Grand Rapids was transported to an area hospital where she died from her injuries the next day.
