Former MSU President back in court on day one of preliminary hearing

Former Michigan State University president Lou Anna Simon was in court today. Simon is charged with lying to law enforcement.

Prosecutors say Simon lied about what she knew and when about Larry Nassar. He’s the former university sports doctor who sexually assaulted his patients for decades.

Only one witness testified during the first day of Simon’s preliminary hearing. Nassar survivor, Amanda Thomashow:

“I mean, when you’ve been sexually assaulted by a doctor that you trust and is the hero of the community that you live in, what do you do because what else is he capable of?”

Thomashow filed a report with M-S-U in 20-14 – and prosecutors say as a result, Simon knew Nassar was accused of sexual assault. They say Simon lied about her knowledge in order to protect the university.

But Simon’s attorneys say the real liars are law enforcement. The hearing will continue in April and then a judge will decide if there’s enough evidence for the case to go to trial.
