Demonstrators gather for women's march in Lansing

Crowds are taking to the streets for a women's march in central Michigan, one of many demonstrations around the globe this weekend. The Lansing State Journal reports up to 20,000 were expected for the Sunday afternoon event in Lansing. Participants are pushing back against Trump administration policies and promoting issues like civic engagement and social justice.

Phoebe Hopps is president of the Women's March Michigan and says the idea is about revving up people to vote and bringing "power to the polls." The marches follow similar protests a year ago when Donald Trump assumed the presidency. Demonstrations have taken place all weekend in places including Las Vegas, London and Paris.
