After Grand Rapids Police reported 8 separate shootings over the weekend, the violence continued Monday with two more. The first happened just before 1 a.m. outside the Hall Street Party Store, where police say they found a woman hit by a single gunshot while sitting in a car.
Two hours later, reports of a second woman shot at Franklin St. SE and Eastern Ave—police say, the incidents are not related and both women are expected to survive.
The shootings bring the number of gun related incidents to 10 total since Saturday morning, after three women were shot a house party. That set off a string of shootings throughout the early morning hours, and police say they have neither suspects in custody or answers as to why the shootings are occurring.
And it’s a on-going story in Grand Rapids, where gun-violence is the worst it has ever been--2020, the number of homicides broke the record for most in a single year in city history.
But it’s a story that is being told all over the country as well, as multiple cities across the country also had record breaking years including Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Kansas City and Columbus.
