GVSU’s Wooden Shoe Regatta, The Black Impact Collaborative, vision screenings for kids, the Mackinac Bridge Swim, and the Kent County Youth Fair

GVSU Engineering presents the 35th Annual Wooden Shoe Regatta on the high “seas” of Keller “Lake.” Professor Shirley Fleichmann from the Seymour and Esther Padnos College of Engineering  joins us to discuss the excitement of a classic sailing race with the Wooden Shoe Regatta and small ships of GVSU.

The Black Impact Collaborative presents The Black Experience, focusing upon spreading Black Joy and the illumination of information access across a wide spectrum. Tonight is the night of a themed house party and there are activities over the weekend. We talk to Board Chair Dallas Lenear this morning.

Nearly 75% of kids' vision problems are missed at school eye screenings. Today we speak with the President of the American Optometric Association, Dr. Teri Geist, about role of a comprehensive school exam, what undiagnosed vision problems lead to, and limiting screen time.

Eric Hansen, splash director of the Mackinac Bridge Swim, recently directed swimmers competing and swimming in tough environmental conditions. Money was raised for an important cause.

The Kent County Youth Fair opens this weekend. John Schut joins us to talk about the lineup, which includes highlights of the animals on site, exhibits to see, and the theme of Stars, Stripes and Summer Nights.
