Republican Joe Moss will represent Michigan’s 89th House District serving residents in portions of Kent, Muskegon and Ottawa Counties

Hudsonville Republican Joe Moss defeated Allendale Democrat Meegan Zickus for state representative in Michigan’s 89th District.

The 40-year-old Moss is currently an Ottawa County commissioner and cofounder of the conservative Ottawa Impact organization. He also owns multiple technology companies.

Fifty-four-year-old Zickus is a bioethics professor at Grand Valley State University and previously served on the Allendale Public School Board and Allendale Planning Commission.

Moss received just over 62% of the votes, with Zickus receiving roughly 37%.

Moss takes office in January and will serve a two-year term in Michigan’s House of Representatives. He fills the seat vacated by Republican Representative Luke Meerman from Coopersville, who decided not to seek reelection after four terms.
