“When you have cancer, I actually have two kinds, but mine is not curable, so you’re always living in this hope that you’ll be here long enough for that next breakthrough that will kick the can down the road, extend your life, maybe even a cure.”
Bill Romanowski has been battling prostate cancer since 2011. In 2024, he was introduced to the doctors at BAMF Health, a Grand Rapids-based healthcare provider specializing in targeted radiopharmaceutical therapy. Romanowski became the first person to receive ART-101 in a clinical trial. Researchers like BAMF’s Medical Director Dr. Brandon Mancini are studying if the active agent in ART-101 can locate and remain within proteins found in prostate cancer cells.
“Patients like Bill and others who kind of have that altruistic viewpoint of helping others, it allows us to figure out discoveries a lot more quickly, and that means if something works or doesn’t work.“
Romanowski says he views the trial as a way for him to help others on their own cancer journey.
“Hopefully it will extend my life, but at the same time, you’re still doing things for other people, and it takes my situation and gives it a larger purpose, and I like that.”
