An international clinical trial firm is bringing its research to West Michigan led by a local doctor, giving area patients access to treatments not otherwise available

Florida-based Headlands Research is expected to launch a research site in Kentwood later this year under the leadership of Dr. Eric Slavin, a West Michigan rheumatologist and internist.

Slavin has led numerous trials for autoimmune conditions and was named a Grand Rapids Magazine Top Doctor for the last five years.

Headlands CEO Kyle Burtnett says, “Rheumatology and autoimmune disease are therapeutic areas where sponsor demand continues to climb, and Grand Rapids gives us both a proven investigator and a strong new site to meet it.”

The location expands Headlands’ trial capacity in the Midwest, focusing on rheumatology, bone/joint conditions and autoimmune/inflammatory diseases.

There will also be studies in general medicine, cardiometabolic disease, obesity, chronic kidney disease, hypertension and vaccines.
