The new regulation reportedly reduces the Biden-era requirement for cars and light trucks to average about 50-and-a-half miles a gallon through the 2031 model year.
Instead, those vehicles will now have to average only 35-and-a-half miles a gallon.
President Trump said on social media the change would eliminate what he often refers to as an electric vehicle “mandate” while claiming it will also help lower the cost of new cars.
But some analysts counter that the move will help drive consumers to EV’s built by Chinese companies.
Experts predict the regulatory change faces a challenge in the courts.
