ArtPrize is partnering with the Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement and Potential to bring a Scholastic Book Fair to the Grand Rapids Downtown Market as part of an immersive, hands-on activity center called Doodle Street.
It includes make-and-take art projects, ballet performances, storytelling, dancing and interactive toys.
The first 4,000 children can choose up to two free books to take home, supporting the state’s Every Child Reads initiative to build strong language, literacy and reading skills.
MiLEAP deputy director Synthia Britton notes that “providing children with free, high-quality books helps families build home libraries and creates more opportunities for children to read, explore and learn.”
The Scholastic Book Fair at the ArtPrize Doodle Street runs from 11AM-4PM Saturday at the Grand Rapids Downtown Market on Ionia Avenue SW.
