Gema Lowe with immigrant advocacy group Movimiento Cosecha GR says Mario David Coronado Juarez was killed about seven Sunday morning when he crashed his vehicle into a tree near US-131 at Century Avenue and McKendrick Street in southwest Grand Rapids. She says he was running from federal ICE agents after a traffic stop.
“ICE was responsible for the circumstances leading to Mario’s crash and death.”
Grand Rapids Police Chief Joseph Trigg confirms Governor Gretchen Whitmer is directing the Michigan State Police to investigate.

Coronado Juarez was an undocumented immigrant who came to the U.S. from Guatemala six or seven years ago. Lowe says he sent some of his construction worker salary back home to buy his family a house.
“Dreamed of creating a better future for his children just like anyone.”
Movimiento Cosecha GR is planning a protest and vigil in memory of Coronado Juarez tomorrow evening at the scene of the crash on Century Avenue.
