“Nothing changes”: reaction to latest birthright citizenship orders

The orders try to block birthright citizenship from applying in certain cases, like when parents travel here just to give birth.
 
“Michigan Immigrant Rights Center” spokesperson Christine Sauvé says she’s concerned more about what the impact could be culturally than legally.
 
“In short, for what this means for people in Michigan, nothing right now. But we’ll be watching for litigation on against these attempts.”
 
But Sauvé fears the order is trying to reframe who counts as an American.
 
The US Supreme Court already struck down a previous federal executive order banning birthright citizenship from applying to children of non-citizens who didn’t have green-cards.
