The president was un-happy Congressman John James decided to leave the GOP’s razor-thin House majority to run for governor. He eventually endorsed James over Perry Johnson, who campaigned as a Trump-esque outsider businessman.
But James says his primary victory marks the start of a fight against a Democratic party veering too far from the mainstream.
“We offer freedom, they offer socialism. We offer change, they offer continued decline. We offer common sense, they offer crazy.”
James faces Democrat Jocelyn Benson, Michigan’s Secretary of State who is a kind of heir apparent to term-limited Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
