“The family that resided in this residence are deceased two adults and six children.”
Capt. Jacob Sparks with the Ottawa County sheriff’s department says Grand Haven Township firefighters called to the house on Riverside Trail Friday morning were investigating smoke in the residence when they discovered the 8 bodies.
“Some of the victims inside the residence did have gunshot wounds to their bodies. We are looking at the theory of murder suicide.”
Captain Sparks say it is possible the fire, which created a lot of smoke but little structural damage, may have been deliberately set.
“Given the circumstances we believe that’s a possibility, that the fire was intentionally set.”
Captain Sparks says he is not aware of any previous problems in the home.
“Not that I know of no. Have no history at this house as far as I know.”
On social media sites relatives say the dead include 39-year-old substitute elementary school teacher Mandy Karolkiewitz, her 47-year-old husband Kristopher and their 6 children.
“Between five and fifteen years of age. This is a tragedy no matter how you slice it. This is a tragic event.”
