Launched in August 2017, Grand Rapids’ online GR PayIt program consolidates multiple payment systems into a single, secure platform.
Officials say the program is approaching $1 billion in total payments processed, with digital adoption having already reduced City Hall walk-in visits by more than 65%, allowing staff to better serve residents who prefer or need in-person assistance.
City Treasurer John Globensky stated, “Our goal was to meet residents where they are, on the device they prefer, when they want and in the way that’s most convenient for them. That customer-focused philosophy became the foundation of our digital front door.”
Today, roughly 85% of property tax, water, refuse, and parking payments are made electronically.
Grand Rapids earned national recognition in 2025 when the Government Finance Officers Association presented the city with its Award for Excellence in Government Finance.
