In a video announcing the end of her run, the Royal Oak Democrat was grateful to her supporters but also underscore the problems with a modern progressive campaign.
“I'm announcing that I am suspending my campaign for United States Senate, and I'm doing it with a deep, deep sense of gratitude for our 1000s of volunteers, for everyone who donated what you could, building a campaign with zero corporate PAC dollars.”
Corporate PACs have spent heavily on Congresswoman Haley Stevens, with millions of dollars in ad-buys before McMorrow ever aired her first commercial. Dr. Abdul El-Sayed is running a campaign to the left of McMorrow and has also abstained from taking corporate PAC money.
Stevens and El-Sayed will face each other in a debate in Grand Rapids on Tuesday.
The winner of the Democratic primary will face Republican Mike Rogers in November.
People who have already voted by mail for McMorrow can ask their clerk to spoil their ballot and request a new one by 5 p.m. on July 24.
