Hope Network recently celebrated the dedication of a new playground at its Holland Center for Autism.
Executive Director for Hope Network’s Centers for Autism Maggie Moore says the unique playground was developed for children participating in the organization’s autism program building communication, social, behavioral and motor skills alongside their family and peers.
“There are the adaptive swings there, so our individuals that need help and support swinging have that in those swings. The flooring for it, we use the recycled rubber that really give it a nice springy feel to it, and it’s really helpful for our kids while they play on the jungle gym equipment.”
Moore says prior to the playground’s installation, the center’s outdoor space was limited, offering few opportunities for structured recreation and skill development.
The playground can accommodate 30 to 40 children.
“I really hope that they find joy and excitement while getting to engage on the playground but also have lots of learning opportunities during their time playing on the playground.”
The project was funded by private donors and the Michael P. Lettinga Pediatric Fund.
