A missing letter on hundreds of Amway Riverbank Run medals has runners scratching their heads and organizers offering a lighthearted apology

What is a “finsher?”

Organizers of Grand Rapids’ 2026 Amway Riverbank Run on Saturday May 9th say it’s one letter short of “finisher” and a typo on the ribbon holding the medal earned by runners who complete the 42K and 25K runs.

They addressed the mistake online in posts reading:

“Somewhere between mile one and the finish line, the “i” didn’t quite make it. While the ribbon missed a letter, your accomplishment did not, and we’re genuinely sorry for the oversight.”

They add that runners deserve a perfect finish, so they will mail updated ribbons to those who request them later this summer.
