Two West Michigan companies have agreed to address PFAS contamination at their property in Belmont, after they were sued by the state

Northeast Gravel Company operated a landfill on the property near Northland Drive and Cannonsburg Road in Belmont.

it sold to The Boulder Creek Development Corporation in 1996 which built homes and a golf course on the site.

In 2018, the former landfill was found to be leaking PFAS chemical compounds, contaminating drinking water impacting nearby residents and the nearby Grand River.

A release from Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel says her office sued after the companies “failed to undertake all the needed work” to investigate the contamination and provide drinking water to affected residents.

The companies now agree to cooperate with an order to investigate the extent of PFAS contamination at the site, conduct necessary response activities, and take actions to protect residents.

As part of the agreement, Boulder Creek Development Corporation will also pay the state $100,000 in accrued costs.
