Gorgeous glass sculptures shimmer among the spring blooms, bringing nature, art and light together across Meijer Garden’s 158 acres with an exhibition by Dale Chihuly.
President and CEO Charles Burke spoke of the friendship between the artist and Garden founder Fred Meijer.
“Fred was a creative very much like Dale, using the tapestry of gardens, art and nature all mixed together in the same way Dale takes sand and fire to create unusual colorful forms that transcend all cultures all over the world.”
Insider tours are offered for an additional fee and on selected evenings, the Gardens will hold extended hours to enjoy the glass art at sunset.
Britt Cornett, Director of Exhibitions at Chihuly Studios, traveled to West Michigan to oversee the installations, and notes the world-class nature of Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park.
“Our team travels the world, and we see a lot of special places and what’s happening here in Grand Rapids is very remarkable. The collection is amazing, and it’s an honor. It’s a thrill for Dale to be part of it.”
This third and largest Chihuly exhibition at the Gardens includes indoor installations in a separate experience representing 60 years in the evolution of his work, his ingenuity and inspirations, with pieces rarely shown to the public, for an additional ticket purchase.
The Chihuly exhibition runs from May through November.
