Kent District Libraries have been shut down due to a ransomware cyber attack.
Library leaders sent a cryptic message to patrons Friday, announcing all 22 branches were closed due to a network outage that began April 24.
After remaining shut down over the weekend, library leaders released a media statement, giving the reason behind the closure:
“Kent District Libraries are investigating a recently discovered ransomware event that's affecting the operability of certain systems and services.”
KDL Director of Engagement Randy Goble explains leaders are working with third-party digital forensic and cybersecurity specialists to determine the full scope of the event, and to securely restore the affected systems as quickly as possible.
“As this investigation is ongoing, so we're unable to provide further details at this time.”
Goble says library patrons can get updates through media reports and on the KDL website.
