Grand Rapids-based Cornerstone University is announcing a two-year tuition freeze, even as tuition costs rise nationwide

Cornerstone University plans to freeze tuition at $22,000 a year through the 2027-2028 school year. Officials say the goal is to provide students with a guaranteed rate during a time when many colleges and universities are increasing costs.

Cornerstone bills itself as one of the most affordable private Christian colleges. The 2028 academic year will mark the fourth year in a row that Cornerstone has kept its tuition rate the same.

Similar Christian liberal arts institutions such as Hope College in Holland recently raised tuition by nearly 7%, while Grand Rapids-based Calvin University raised full-time undergraduate tuition by nearly 4%.

According to the Education Data Initiative, graduate school tuition is projected to increase by an average of just over 2.5% for the upcoming school year, due in part to declining state funding and increased financial aid spending.

From 2023 to 2024, Cornerstone saw an 82% increase in new student enrollment.
